BIOGRAPHY/CURRICULUM
Luca Nostri was born in Lugo in 1976, where he lives and works. After studying Sociology at the University of Bologna, he attended the lessons of Guido Guidi at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. In 2020 he completed a PhD in Photography at Plymouth University. His research of the last fifteen years focuses on an area of the province of Ravenna known as Bassa Romagna ("Lowlands of Romagna"), which he has investigated over time with an interdisciplinary approach, combining artistic and curatorial projects. In 2005 he has established in his hometown the project Lugo Land, involving international photographers and young authors, devising an editorial series for photography, and developing an educational program, affiliating with some universities (University of Pennsylvania School of Design, Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, Bard College in Hannandale-on-Hudson, NY).
In 2008 he exhibited the series of photographs L'Isola dei Ciurli at Les Rencontres d'Arles. In 2009 he participated in the project A question of time at the American Academy in Rome, and the following year he received a scholarship from the same institution as Italian fellow in the Arts. In 2010 he participated in the project Dove Viviamo, conceived by Osservatorio Fotografico in Ravenna, and published and exhibited the series La ruota della luna at the Ninapì Gallery in Ravenna. In 2013 he received the Graziadei prize and exhibited the series Solarolo (later Anselmo) at the Macro museum in Rome as part of FotoGrafia International Festival.
In 2016 he was included in the exhibition Qualsiasità, curated by Alessandro Dandini de Sylva for the Malaspina Foundation, and subsequently exhibited at the Centro Arti Visive in Pesaro. In 2018 it was included in the exhibition Facing the Camera, curated by Marco Delogu and exhibited at the Italian Cultural Institute in London, New York and Toronto. In 2019 he exhibited the series Anselmo at the Maxxi Museum in Rome and a selection of 15 photographs became part of the museum's collection. In 2020 he exhibited the work 4 courtyards at the foundation Linea di Confine per la Fotografia Contemporanea (RE), as a first attempt of combining together curatorial and personal work.
Since 2014 he has been a tutor and teacher of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.
